Why We're Here - Mindful Health Academy

Why We're Here

Healthcare professionals are a lifeline to millions of people. They provide education, treatment, care and support in multiple forms to help people from all walks of life to heal and recover from a huge variety of physical, mental and emotion difficulties and conditions.

But healthcare professionals are working in one of the most challenging and stressful professions. They encounter high levels of personal demand, exposure to trauma, difficulty accessing resources, relationship challenges, fatigue, risk of burnout, risk of mental ill health and feelings of guilt at not being able to do more.

Healthcare professionals can only help others if they are themselves healthy and well, physically, emotionally and mentally. With the right education, training, resources and support in place, healthcare professionals can thrive and help others to do so too.

Why Mindfulness?

Mindfulness has been scientifically proven time and time again to be hugely beneficial for a wide range of human challenges. Mindfulness is recognised and recommended in the UK by NICE, the National Institute for Health & Care Excellence.

Mindfulness can help us cope with anxiety and stress, balance the nervous system, build emotional resilience and regulation, increase focus and concentration, manage pain and create feelings of calmness and ease, to name just a few benefits.

It is also helpful for teams, increasing presence, improving communication and cooperation, reducing conflict and increasing compassion for self and others.

All of us are capable of being mindful at times. With the right training and support, we can learn to cultivate more of this in our lives, for our benefit and the benefit of those we work with and serve.
